There are several recognised pathways into PGAM membership, depending on your achievements, qualifications, and professional experience.

NATIONAL REPRESENTATION

Former Malaysian national players who have represented Malaysia at recognised international competitions, including:

  • SEA Games
  • Asian Games
  • Putra Cup
  • Santi Cup
  • Queen Sirikit Cup
  • World Cup
  • Other equivalent events approved by PGAM
PLAYING ABILITY

Demonstrate professional playing ability through one of the following:

  • Qualifying through the PGAM Pro Trial
  • Competing on the PGAM Satellite Tour and achieving the required scoring average over the prescribed number of rounds.*

(Subject to the qualifying standards set by PGAM.)

PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Winner of a PGAM-recognised professional tournament within the past two years
  • Top 50 on the PGM Tour Order of Merit

RECOGNISED PGA MEMBER
  • Current member of an accredited PGA recognised by PGAM.
ELITE AMATEUR ACHIEVEMENT

Applicants may also qualify through recognised amateur achievements, including:

  • No. 1 on the MGA Ranking
  • Top 500 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) within the past five years
  • Outstanding NCAA achievements recognised by PGAM

HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR A VOCATIONAL MEMBERSHIP?

There are 3 recognized pathways to becoming a PGAM Vocational Member.

COACH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The recommended pathway for aspiring golf coaches.

Complete the structured PGAM Coach Development Program, which combines education, practical coaching experience, mentorship, and assessment.

Eligible to Apply for Vocational Membership

Recommended for:

  • New coaches
  • Golf professionals transitioning into coaching
  • Golf enthusiasts pursuing a coaching career

EQUIVALENT COACHING CERTIFICATIONS

If you already hold a recognised golf coaching qualification, you may be eligible to apply, subject to PGAM assessing your qualification as equivalent to the PGAM Level 2 Coaching Certification.

Applicants are also required to:

  • Pass the PGAM Playing Ability Test (PAT)
  • Complete R&A Rules of Golf Level 1
  • Complete a minimum of 50 hours of practical mentorship under a PGAM-recognised coach or approved Coach Development Centre.
  • Submit a coaching summary and mentor recommendation
  • Pass a PGAM assessment or evaluation

Where necessary, PGAM may require applicants to complete bridging modules, additional mentorship, or other requirements before membership is approved.

EXPERIENCED GOLF COACHES

Experienced golf coaches may also be eligible to apply if they:

  • Have at least 8 years of coaching experience
  • Have developed at least two players who have represented their state or competed at a higher level, supported by written testimonials from those players
  • Provide written testimonials from two current PGAM coaches with at least five years of coaching experience
  • Provide a written recommendation from one PGAM Council Member

HOW DO I BECOME AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER

For overseas golf professionals working in Malaysia.

Associate Membership is designed for qualified non-Malaysian golf professionals who wish to teach or work in Malaysia.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a non-Malaysian
  • Be a current member of a recognised PGA
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience
  • Submit supporting documents with their application

Under PGAM’s by-laws, non-Malaysians intending to undertake professional golf activities in Malaysia must first be registered with PGAM.

Special Pathway for Permanent Residents

Non-Malaysians who are married to a Malaysian and permanently residing in Malaysia may be eligible to participate in the PGAM Pro Trial.

Applicants must provide:

  • A copy of their marriage certificate
  • Proof of permanent residence in Malaysia
  • An official golf handicap of 5 or below

Working in Malaysia

In collaboration with the Malaysian Immigration Department, written consent from PGAM is required before a work permit can be issued for professional golf activities in Malaysia.
